Add Insult To Injury is Add N To (X)'s third album for Mute and features 12 brand new tracks, including the forthcoming single "Plug Me In." The album follows 1999's brilliant Avant Hard album and their groundbreaking debut from 1998, On The Wires Of Our Nerves.
Formed in 1994, Add N To (X) is Ann Shenton, Barry Smith, and Steve Claydon. The band's name refers to a computer command that creates an unknown third electronic force. Barry met Ann while DJ-ing at an abstract electronic club he was running called We Are Electric. Through mutual friends in London, Steve met Ann and Barry, who not only shared the same interest in music, but also loved sci-fi films and scouring flea markets for unusual collectibles. He was asked to join the band in 1995.
Add Insult To Injury is a collection of volatile sounds colliding with perfect pop melodies, and the result is perhaps the best and certainly the most ambitious Add N To (X) release to date. The band spent time writing and recording the new songs at a villa in the South of France and in a studio in Sheffield, England, with Dean Honer, who also recorded On The Wires Of Our Nerves. Steve Clayton says, "The 12 new tracks are a mix of naive and sinister elementsΓÇöthe machines take a pretty idea and destroy it. It's psycho-geographyΓÇöeach song has its own landscape."
Add N To (X) has toured extensively throughout Europe and America. Complete with two drummers, the live shows were chaotic and unpredictable and saw the group confirm its early promise to become one of the most exciting live bands around. Choosing to operate the machines live, the band views this ongoing relationship with instruments as being as fraught, chaotic, and symbiotic as any human one. American audiences saw the group tour with John Spencer Blues Explosion, Hovercraft, and Atari Teenage Riot.
Add N To (X), which played its first live show of the year at the recent Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Spain, is set to announce live dates in the very near future.
